Hello from Phnom Penh.
I’m not hanging about too long so som toh (sorry) to any crew who might be reading this who I haven’t managed to see. I’m not ghostin’ you, traveling during Covid is very stressful.
So ends this stint in Cambodia and now begins mad limbo time. Suitcases flying about, dipping in and out of storage, quarantines, multiple pcr tests, registering for vaccinations, form filling, hotel bookings, anxiety and more.
My wife Leah and son Reza are off to Seattle to face the raging heat that’s hit the Pacific Northwest and I’m heading back to the UK to negotiate flash floods and debate about what Pantone grey London is today. For my London fam feel free to let me know in the comments below.
It’s been great in Cambodia, a productive professional hiatus which I recommend to everybody when they can fit it into their lives. I spent a lot of time with my family and had room to do me - shoot pics, write scripts and fix up some needed health and wellness issues i.e. dental work and yoga.
As I get back to London, I’ll be quarantining and preparing some SBPress books to go to print which you can read about in my last post. I’m also very excited to be writing up a film concept that’s been floating around the development section of my mind.
Currently called The Otherside it goes a little something like this ..
Aspiring artist Devi is plagued by a series of auditory and visual hallucinations. She embarks on a journey to find her estranged aunt in the Otherside, a former restricted refugee camp.
Heavily influenced by my British Asian upbringing, I’m already calling out to friends, family and extended crew to help get this film going and it will be a big focus for the tail end of the year. With a lot of music and a lot of dance I’m already looking forward to sharing updates about the production as we move forward.
Alright, that’s me done from Cambodia - heading to the airport in a couple of hours - do feel free to follow my comings and goings via Instagram.
And…
Just before leaving Siem Reap, I remembered we had a few suitcases in storage that had been unopened for 3 years. I was expecting the worst. From tropical rot to rats filling their boots but all I got was a bit of dust and a bit of lens mould - not bad.
Very happy to find some old cameras, in particular a wooden pinhole camera gifted to me by an elderly guy in Singapore which I’ve never used.
Video Time
Here’s an insight to a bit of London life today…please note all these stations in this video are very local to me.
